You’re Insensitive To Akinlalu Killings – Osun APC Knocks State House Of Assembly

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun-led state House of Assembly of insensitivity over the callous and wicked killings of no fewer than ten innocent natives of Akinlalu, a community in the Ife-North Local Government Council Area of the state by some trigger-happy Amotekun Corps, some days ago.

It would be recalled that operatives of Osun Amotekun invaded Akinlalu community on 1st October, 2025 where they shot brazenly scores of natives of the town.

This development led to the closure of the Amotekun corps’ offices in both Ile-Ife and Osogbo while a sizeable number of the officials were arrested by the police.

Rising from its plenary session, exactly ten days after the incident, the state lawmakers woke up from its slumber and condemned the sealing of the Amotekun corps’ operational offices in the two mentioned towns, threatening fire and brimstone against the Nigeria Police Force and two prominent political figures in the state who are of the APC extraction namely the former state Governor Adegboyega Oyetola now Minister and Senator Francis Fadahunsi representing Osun East Senatorial District in the Senate.

It was saddening that a supposed lawmaking house of assembly like the one currently in place in Osun State could wait for ten solid days before it could make any statement on the extra-judicial killings of some innocent citizens by the agents of the state.

Where went the voices of the unsympathetic leadership of the rubber stamp House of Assembly since the evolution of the issue at stake that has graduated to a national embarrassment before it, after ten days, found it worthy and suitable to come up with what ended up to be a diatribe?

What moral and legal justification has the Osun State House of Assembly to have placed the sealing of the operational offices of the killer Amotekun corps above the slaughtering of the innocent natives of Akinlalu among whom were two graduate siblings who happened to be the only children of their mother?

The feeling out there based on the offensive tone of the tirade from the pliable state lawmaking house is that the calamitous incident would not have made any meaning to the lawmakers if the operational offices of the killer Amotekun corps had not been sealed and the arrest of some culpable ones among them effected.

The whipping of the sentiment by the leadership of the Osun State House of Assembly on the sealing of the offices and arrest of the killer Amotekun corps by the police isn’t necessary as the expected roles of the supposed state peace-keeping para-military security service are to complement the services of the Nigeria Police Force.

It is the manifestly horrendous activities of the Osun Amotekun Corps that is making it an object of repugnancy under the leadership of Mr Isaac Adekunle Omoyele who has an unenviable history of human rights abuse as a police officer especially during the EndSARs protests in Osun State.

We, as a party, are not saying that the establishment of the Amotekun Corps which hitherto was the brainchild of the progressive government is not desirable but our take is that it must be properly administered, different from political agents of terrorism, oppression and victimisation that it has become under the ex-Chief Security Officer of Governor Ademola Adeleke who has been running the sensitive security service according to his whims and caprices.

For the Osun State Amotekun corps to be relevant in the society, there is an urgent need for it to undergo a surgical operation with a view to reforming it to meet up with the expectations of the moment in a genuine democratic government.

The Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun, the puppet Speaker of the state House of Assembly, should stop behaving as if blood is not running in his veins on the approach of the House under his leadership to the needless killings of the innocent souls perpetrated by the killer Amotekun corps at Akinlalu.

It is not as if the heavens would fall in Osun State if the Amotekun corps is sanitised by the statutory body eminently qualified to do so. After all, a greater percentage of the other states where there are no Amotekun corps do not have an abysmal poor record of break down of law and order as we have it in Osun.

One would have expected a focused and diligent House of Assembly to have prevailed on the commandant of the killer Amotekun corps who has gone under since he was invited by the police to shed light on the carnage in Akinlalu.
