The Osun State Police Command has warned political parties and their supporters against taking the law into their own hands following the recent judgment of the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo on the lingering local government dispute between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a press statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command said it is fully aware of the court’s decision and its implications, adding that security agencies are closely monitoring the activities, conduct, and public statements of all parties involved.
The Police stressed that there are established legal procedures for enforcing court judgments and urged all stakeholders to strictly follow due process rather than resorting to self-help.
The Command specifically warned against any attempt to forcefully take over local government secretariats, offices, or public property, describing such actions as unlawful and capable of disrupting public peace.
According to the statement, all political actors, supporters, and residents of the state should remain calm, law-abiding, and channel any grievances or enforcement efforts through the appropriate legal and judicial mechanisms.
The Police further disclosed that security personnel across the state have been placed on heightened alert to maintain law and order, warning that anyone found engaging in acts capable of breaching the peace would face decisive legal action.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property while ensuring that the rule of law prevails throughout Osun State.
