*Osun APC Mourns Passing Of Oba Gboyega Famodun, Describes It As Collosal Loss*
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has mourned the demise of the Owa of Igbajoland, Oba Philip Adegboyega Famodun III, who joined his ancestors after a brief illness on Friday, 28th November, 2028.
The late Oba Famodun’s younger brother, Prince David Adekunle Famodun, officially broke the news of the demise of the immediate-past chairman of the Osun State chapter of the APC in a statement issued on behalf of the Gbeleru Royal Family of Igbajo early today.
Oba Famodun, the 30th Owa of Igbajoland, who was installed and presented the staff of office on the 24th November, 2022 by the immediate-past Governor Gboyega Oyetola now Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, died in an Abuja hospital at the age of 67.
Though Oba Famodun’s position was disputed by a White Paper issued by Governor Ademola Adeleke, the Osun State High Court reinstated him on January 30, 2025.
In a statement by the state chairman of the APC, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, issued by the party’s spokesman, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, today, the news of the death of Oba Famodun was shocking and unbelievable.
Lawal stated that the death of the Owa of Igbajoland has left a very big vacuum in the progressive party’s family in the state as he had proven to be an encyclopedia of the Osun State politics since the foundation of the state till he breathed the last.
He described the deceased as a kind-hearted father figure who was always available to contribute to the development of the state within the purview of his capability in all ramifications.
Lawal observed that the death of Oba Famodun was not only a collosal loss to his Igbajo kingdom but to the entire state as he was a known political chieftain without border during his active political life.
The state APC chairman stated that Oba Famodun worked tirelessly to unite the people of Igbajoland, promoting peace, understanding and progress.
In his words: “His leadership and vision have left an indelible mark on the community and his legacy will continue to inspire future generations. He will be remembered for his peaceful nature, exceptional wisdom and tireless efforts to promote community development.
“May God grant the family, Igbajo palace chiefs and well-wishers the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of the monarch”, Lawal prayed.
