The Osun State Police Command has dismissed as false and misleading allegations by the Chairman of the Osun Accord, Pastor Victor Akande, that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Dada Estate Division was transferred over his handling of the recent Okinni incident.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, the Command described the claim as an attempt capable of creating unnecessary public tension, insisting that the transfer formed part of a routine administrative reshuffling involving about 20 Divisional Police Officers across the state.
According to the police, the redeployment was a strategic operational decision aimed at improving policing efficiency, strengthening security operations, and addressing emerging security challenges across Osun State. The Command stressed that the transfer had no connection with the Okinni incident, ongoing investigations, or any political consideration.
The Police further expressed concern over what it described as the increasing trend of political actors exploiting security matters for partisan purposes. It warned political party chairmen, spokespersons, campaign directors-general, and other stakeholders against making reckless, unverified, or inflammatory statements capable of undermining public confidence in security institutions.
The statement noted that distorting facts for political advantage is irresponsible and poses a threat to public peace and security, warning that anyone found spreading false information capable of inciting disorder would be dealt with in accordance with the law.
On the Okinni incident, the Command disclosed that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a comprehensive, professional, and impartial investigation to establish the facts and ensure that justice is served.
Reaffirming its commitment to neutrality and professionalism, the Police assured residents that it would continue to discharge its constitutional responsibilities without fear, favour, or political influence, while urging members of the public to allow investigators to carry out their duties without interference or politicization.
