A socio-political group in Osun State, the Dynamic Reformers(DR), has called for the immediate arrest, investigation and prosecution of the commander of the Amotekun Corps in the state, Mr Adekunle Omoyele, over the cruel and inhuman slaughtering of three members of the same family by the members of the corps at Akinlalu, a town in the Ife-North Local Government Council Area of the state.

According to the visibly worried chairman of the Reformers Group, Mr. Duro Olaleke, a retired educationist, the appraisal of the totality of the activities of the supposed paramilitary state security service has shown that its membership and leadership lack direction, focus and they are more of a liability rather than an asset.

Pa Olaleke stated that the killings of the innocent people carried out by the Amotekun corps was needless, wicked, inhuman and insensitive which shouldn’t be experienced in any sane society where the rule of law is not sacrificed for the rule of the jungle.

The DR chairman enjoined all the right-thinking members of the society to speak with one voice and condemn the pogrom that was wickedly carried out by the Amotekun corps which has cast a negative aspersion on the image of the state under Governor Ademola Adeleke.

It is a thing of a great concern that the state Governor Adeleke has not deemed it necessary to condemn the slaughtering of the three members of the same family by the Amotekun corps in the ancient town for whatever might have been the remote or direct cause of the crisis.

Since the nation’s operating Constitution ensures and assures a fundamental right to live, it is criminal for a fellow human being to take the lives of other persons at will when we are not living in a Banana Republic.

It is also nauseating and strange that the leadership of the state House of Assembly under the leadership of the Right Honourable Adewale Egbedun has not found any justifiable reason to condemn the killings by the Amotekun corps.

The question arises that if any of the murdered natives of Akinlalu were to be the relations of either the state governor or any of the members of the state House of Assembly, would they have maintained such a lackadaisical attitude to the avoidable killings?

It would not be out of tune to task the Inspector-General of Police to instantly prevail on the state Commissioner of Police to, without further delay, step up their professional activities with a view to nabbing the culprits for instant prosecution and trial.

It would be an act of insensitivity for Governor Adeleke to be conducting himself as all is well in the state as the foremost service of any government to the people that is worth its salt is to prioritise the security of lives and property of the citizenry.

The incidents of the verifiable excesses of the Amotekun corps in Osun State are too rampant which is indicative of the fact that Omoyele is not capable of heading the security outfit.

Amotekun corps are also available in other states in the South-West and there have not been such cases of extra-judicial killings of innocent and defenceless persons traceable to them. The state security outfit requires an urgent surgical operation if only to restore the confidence of the people in them.
