In a strategic move to enhance access to quality healthcare at the grassroots level, the Ife East Local Government, under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Hon. Akinwole Safiriyu Akinwale, has partnered with the Central Education Development and Advancement Program (CEDAP) to launch a comprehensive Free Eye Care Assistance Project aimed at addressing the visual health needs of residents across the local government area.

The initiative, implemented in collaboration with Water Plains International, is scheduled to take place at the Ife East Local Government Secretariat, Oke-Ogbo, Ile-Ife, with registration commencing on Wednesday, July 3, 2025, and full program activities beginning on Wednesday, July 9, 2025.

The outreach will provide a wide range of free services including eye screening, diagnosis, administration of eye drops, and distribution of corrective eyeglasses. Special attention will be given to the elderly, market women, students, and other vulnerable groups who typically lack access to adequate eye care.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Hon. Akinwole Safiriyu Akinwale Omilaj, reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to community well-being and preventive health measures.

We recognize that good vision is essential to quality of life. Many of our people suffer silently from treatable eye conditions due to lack of access or financial constraints. This initiative reflects our commitment to bridging that gap and delivering essential healthcare directly to the people,” he said.

CEDAP, known for its impactful community development programs, commended the leadership of Ife East LG and reiterated its commitment to ensuring a successful and far-reaching outreach in collaboration with Water Plains International, a reputable organization with a proven record in humanitarian medical interventions.

According to program coordinators, the project will also include awareness sessions on eye health, early detection of diseases like glaucoma and cataracts, and referrals for further specialized treatment where necessary.

Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity by participating in the registration phase, as the initiative is expected to significantly improve eye health across the community.

This landmark collaboration further underscores Ife East Local Government’s position as a proactive agent of grassroots development, prioritizing health, accessibility, and human dignity in its governance agenda.
