Osun ALGON Dismantles PDP’s Lies, Vows to Prosecute Document Saboteurs
Our attention has again been drawn to a publication by Osun Defender Newspaper, based on a statement issued by a faceless group calling itself “Concerned Citizens of Osun State,” wherein several falsehoods and misrepresentations were made regarding a letter from the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF).
We wish to set the record straight:
1. Following the Court of Appeal judgment delivered on February 10th 2025, which restored the mandate of the legally elected local government chairmen under the All Progressives Congress (APC), we officially wrote to relevant authorities and government agencies including the AGF, CBN, Security outfits in accordance with the norms and law. We wrote with the attachement of the CTC copy of the judgement and enrollment/enforcement order to inform them of our reinstatement and our effective resumption.
2. Consequent upon the above, several classified communications and documents from ALGON National and other federal institutions were directed to us through the ALGON Secretariat in the ministry of Local government, Abere, Osogbo but unfortunately, the current PDP-led state government and their self styled ALGON deliberately blocked our access to the Secretariat, in clear disregard for the rule of law and the judgement of the Appeal Court of 10/02/25. Most of our communications were blocked and many couldn’t be traced again. For example, a letter for one ALGON Lagos meeting was hijacked and attended by another Osun ALGON Chairman not known to Law. We therefore took a decision to relocate our own ALGON office to km 13 Gbongan Ibadan Road, Ogo Oluwa Area, Osogbo.
3. Contrary to the claims made in the publication that the letter was directed to APC Office, the location referred to is our own new ALGON Secretariat in Osogbo and no amount of publications or protests can change it. We have the right to relocate our ALGON office to any location of our choice . ALGON is an association of elected local government Chairmen being operated with a valid registration and constitution. ALGON is not a government agency hence its doesn’t have to be housed in the government ministry.
4. In response, and for the sake of administrative order and personal security—given the hostile and violent political atmosphere created in Osun State—we relocated to the new office. This new location was fully furnished and funded by us without any government or Party interference and we accordingly updated our official address with our National office and other relevant authorities and agencies of government including the AGF’s office.
5. The letter referenced by your report was duly received after a formal request was submitted by our office. The process followed was legitimate and within the framework of our responsibilities as elected council chairmen. The role of ALGON was elaborate in the pursue of autonomy for local government and even the processes of account opening. The letter under reference was a reply to our earlier letter to them. What offence or infraction has the AGF committed by replying our request letter – backed by our judgement of 10/02/25 and it’s interpretation by the Hon Attorney General of the Federation to us in our new address specified on our new letter headed paper.
6. The original copy of this letter under reference is in our custody and we still wonder how it’s turned out to become a social media parade. Though the letter is supposed to be a public document but yet we are the addressee – reason why machinery has been put in motion to trap who ever is involved in it’s sneak, leak and spread without authorization especially from Abuja end.
The publication sponsored by this so-called civil society group is not only misleading but clearly politically motivated. It is unfortunate that Osun Defender—a newspaper with a name to protect—allows itself to be used to amplify such an unverified and biased narrative/story.
We are focused on fulfilling our constitutional duties and will not be drawn into needless distractions. Let it be known that we remain committed to peace, service to our people, and upholding the rule of law even in the face of provocation.
