The Ife Federal Constituency APC Media Directorate has condemned what it described as the collapse of Osun State’s emergency healthcare system under Governor Ademola Adeleke, raising concerns over the whereabouts of the 35 ambulances inherited by his administration from its predecessor.
According to the Directorate, the Osun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (O’AMBULANCE), once regarded as one of the most effective emergency response initiatives in Nigeria, has been neglected, leaving thousands of residents vulnerable during medical emergencies.
The Directorate alleged that despite the huge allocations running into tens of billions of naira to the Office of the Governor over the past three years, the state’s emergency healthcare system has deteriorated significantly, with only a handful of ambulances reportedly still operational.
The statement questioned: “Where are the 35 ambulances inherited by Governor Adeleke? Who should be held accountable for the disappearance and neglect of these life-saving assets?”
It further alleged that emergency medical response across Osun State has become ineffective, forcing many residents to rely on private vehicles during life-threatening situations.
Describing the situation as unacceptable, the Directorate called on the Adeleke administration to explain why the health sector has witnessed such a sharp decline despite the enormous public resources at its disposal.
The group maintained that the previous APC administration invested heavily in emergency medical services to ensure prompt healthcare delivery and save lives across the state.
The Directorate also expressed confidence in the leadership of the Osun APC governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), stating that his administration would prioritize the revitalization of the healthcare sector, including upgrading health facilities, strengthening emergency medical response services, procuring modern ambulances, improving access to quality healthcare in all local governments, and pursuing universal health coverage through strategic partnerships.
The statement concluded by urging the people of Osun State to demand accountability and transparency in the management of public resources, insisting that access to quality emergency healthcare should never become a casualty of poor governance.
