In a strong show of support from abroad, Iwoland indigenes in the diaspora have congratulated Hon. Ismail Sefiu Oluwasinaayomi, popularly known as Akogun, on his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the Ayiwola Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Ayiwola Federal Constituency—comprising Iwo, Ayedire, and Olaoluwa local governments—remains a politically strategic bloc within Osun State. Akogun’s emergence followed what stakeholders have described as a credible, inclusive, and transparent screening process conducted by party leaders across the constituency.

The screening committee, chaired by respected party stalwart Alhaji Liad Tella, carried out extensive consultations and thorough assessments before arriving at a unanimous decision to adopt Akogun as the sole consensus candidate. The outcome has been widely received as a reflection of growing unity and internal cohesion within the party.

In a statement issued by the President of Iwoland Indigenes in Diaspora, Sabitu Adam (Canada), and the Secretary, John Adeoti (Aberdeen), the group applauded the leadership of the Ayiwola constituency for what it described as a mature and democratic approach to candidate selection.

The diaspora body expressed appreciation for the collective resolve demonstrated by party leaders in presenting a candidate they described as credible, competent, and widely accepted at the grassroots level. According to the statement, Akogun’s emergence marks a significant step toward strengthening the APC’s chances in the constituency.

“This development reflects a new and progressive political direction within Ayiwola,” the statement read. “The unity displayed by the leadership is commendable and should serve as a model for internal democracy and cooperation within the party.”

The group further noted that the transparent nature of the process has helped build confidence among party members and supporters, while also reducing the likelihood of internal disputes often associated with candidate selection.

Key figures who participated in the screening and consensus-building process include Alhaji Alao Kamorudeen Olabisi, Sabitu Ayodele Nafiu, Musi Opakunle, Akanni Saliu, Jolaoye George, Liadi Ganiyu Ojogbon, Adeleke Olarewaju, Bisi Ogunkale, Olasunkanmi James Olaniyi, Akinyooye Ismail, and Adebodun Adeyemi Kazeem, among others.

Political observers believe that the peaceful emergence of a consensus candidate in Ayiwola may signal a broader shift within the Osun APC toward unity-driven strategies, especially as the party prepares for future electoral contests.

While congratulating Akogun, the diaspora group urged all stakeholders, aspirants, and party faithful within the constituency to sustain the spirit of unity and work collectively toward ensuring electoral success for the APC.

They also reaffirmed their continued support for progressive ideals and pledged to remain actively engaged in promoting the development and political stability of Iwoland and Osun State at large.

The emergence of Akogun as consensus candidate is already being seen as a strategic consolidation of political strength within Ayiwola, with many expressing optimism that the unity demonstrated will translate into victory at the polls.
