The Integrity Group of Osun State has strongly condemned the continued governance failures of the Ademola Adeleke-led administration, describing its handling of the education and health sectors as a tragic example of incompetence, policy somersaults, and politically motivated decision-making that has inflicted severe hardship on the people of Osun State.
In a statement released on Monday by the group Publicity Secretary, Hon Ismail Alade Iwa, the Integrity group recalled that immediately after assuming office in 2022, Governor Adeleke embarked on what it described as a reckless and vindictive purge of the public service, resulting in the dismissal of over 1,500 teachers and nearly 3,000 health workers lawfully recruited under the administration of former Governor Alhaji Adegboyega Oyetola. According to the Integrity Group, this singular action dismantled years of structured workforce planning and plunged public schools and healthcare facilities across the state into avoidable crisis.
The group noted that for more than three years, Osun State bore the brunt of this ill-advised policy, as classrooms became overcrowded, learning standards declined sharply, and primary healthcare centres struggled with dangerous manpower shortages. Despite clear warning signs and public outcry, the Adeleke administration failed to recruit replacements or deploy any credible intervention, choosing instead to rely on propaganda, media theatrics, and empty assurances.
The Integrity Group described the recent hurried recall of the affected workers by the state government as a forced and belated response to sustained pressure and the obvious collapse of essential services. It stressed that the action amounts to an open admission of policy failure and highlights the enormous damage done to Osun’s education and health systems due to years of indecision and poor leadership.
Commending the reinstated Local Government Chairmen and Councillors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Integrity Group praised their courage, responsiveness, and people-oriented leadership. The group applauded their decision to recall affected teachers and health workers at the local government level, describing it as a timely intervention aimed at restoring stability, professionalism, and efficiency in grassroots service delivery.
According to the Integrity Group, the proactive steps taken by the APC-led local governments clearly demonstrate the difference between responsible leadership and executive recklessness. While governance at the state level has been characterised by confusion, reversals, and political hostility, the APC local government leadership has prioritised action over rhetoric and the welfare of citizens over partisan vendetta.
The Integrity Group of Osun State concluded that the ongoing situation offers a clear lesson in leadership and accountability. It noted that while the state government failed at a critical moment, leadership emerged at the grassroots to cushion the effects of poor governance and safeguard the future of Osun’s children and vulnerable citizens.
“History will not only record the policies that weakened our public institutions,” the group stated, “but will also remember those who, against all odds, stood up to rebuild what reckless governance sought to destroy.”
