CITA ENERGIES BOSS URGES NATIONAL COMMITMENT TO AVIATION FUEL INFRASTRUCTURE RENEWAL.

The ongoing birthday colloquium, held in honour of Dr. Thomas Olaleye Ogungbangbe, is a strictly apolitical and non-partisan event marking the legendary businessman’s birthday celebration.

Themed “Aviation Fuel Business in Nigeria: The Scenario and the Metaphor,” the colloquium focuses on current developments within the aviation sector, particularly the challenges surrounding aviation fuel supply, infrastructure, and pricing. Discussions at the event centre on the need to strengthen local refining capacity, reduce dependence on imports, and stabilize fuel prices for the benefit of both operators and travellers.

Experts at the session observed that reducing import dependency would significantly ease pressure on the nation’s foreign exchange, lower operational costs, and make air travel more affordable for Nigerians.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Ogungbangbe, who is also the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CITA Energies, called for the revival of the aviation fuel pipeline from Atlas Cove to major airports across the country, alongside the rehabilitation of related storage and distribution infrastructure. According to him, such efforts should be treated as a matter of national priority, capable of saving millions of dollars annually while also easing traffic congestion and wear on Lagos roads caused by tanker movements.

Dr. Thomas Ogungbangbe emphasized that revitalizing the aviation fuel business would open new economic opportunities, enhance regulatory compliance, and promote growth across the aviation value chain. He described this transformation metaphorically as “the Eagle spreading its wings,” symbolizing renewed strength, efficiency, and limitless potential for the aviation industry to soar to greater heights.

The colloquium is also expected to make far-reaching recommendations aimed at addressing the current challenges in the aviation sector, encouraging innovation, efficiency, and sustainability in the supply and management of aviation fuel in Nigeria.
