NULGE President Ogungbangbe Now Frontline Agent of PDP’s Plot to Loot LG Funds – ALGON Osun

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State chapter, has accused the President of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Osun State, Mr. Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, of abandoning his role as a union leader and transforming into a partisan agent of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

In a strongly worded statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Samuel Idowu Abiodun, ALGON Osun alleged that Ogungbangbe, in a press release published in the Punch Newspaper on Monday, 8th September 2025, had openly aligned himself with the PDP government in Osun rather than defending the welfare of workers as expected.

According to ALGON, Ogungbangbe’s comments on the issue of local government funds in the state were “reckless, biased, and designed to blackmail federal institutions” such as the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Central Bank of Nigeria.

ALGON insisted that:

1. The elected APC chairmen and councillors remain the legitimate representatives of the people of Osun State, backed by the February 10th, 2025 judgment of the Akure Appeal Court, which invalidated the caretaker committees installed by Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2022.

2. The NULGE president lacks the authority to dictate to federal financial institutions and has instead “reduced himself to a political mouthpiece of the PDP.”

3. The insistence of the elected chairmen and councillors on access to local government allocations does not preempt the Supreme Court but upholds their constitutional rights as guaranteed by law.

4. By dragging union members into partisan politics, Ogungbangbe risks pushing NULGE into conflict with the constitution, which forbids civil servants from partisan activity.

5. The falsehoods and propaganda being spread by Ogungbangbe are part of a desperate attempt to cover up Governor Adeleke’s “illegality in hijacking local government administration” since 2022.

ALGON Osun emphasized that the PDP-led government is solely responsible for the crisis in local government administration, pointing to multiple court cases instituted by the state government as the main reason allocations have been withheld.

The group urged the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Central Bank of Nigeria, and all relevant authorities to ignore partisan distractions and uphold the rule of law.

ALGON further called on Osun workers, civil society, and the general public to “see through the propaganda disguised as unionism,” warning that the people’s mandate cannot be stolen through political manipulation.

The statement concluded with a warning that Ogungbangbe’s actions amount to “frontline sabotage” of democracy in Osun State.
