Osun LG Crisis: APC Blames Adeleke’s Lawlessness for Osun’s Stagnation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has taken Governor Ademola Adeleke to task over the lingering local government crisis, accusing him of deliberately undermining democratic institutions and throwing the state into needless chaos.

The party, reacting to Adeleke’s allegations that “opposition forces” were behind the paralysis of local governments, said the governor was only attempting to divert attention from his serial disobedience to court rulings and his failure to respect due process.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Kola Olabisi, the APC described Adeleke as the chief architect of the crisis, insisting that the governor’s refusal to implement the judgment of the Court of Appeal in Akure, which reinstated the duly elected council chairmen and councillors sacked in 2022, was at the root of the impasse.

“It is laughable that Governor Adeleke would liken opposition parties to Biblical Pharaohs when he himself has become the Goliath standing between the people of Osun and functional local governance,” the statement read. “Adeleke’s penchant for impunity and disregard for the judiciary is what has crippled grassroots administration, not the APC.”

The APC reminded the public that it was Adeleke who installed his handpicked caretaker committees in violation of the law, despite subsisting judgments, thereby plunging the local governments into a leadership tussle that has stalled service delivery since February 17.

Olabisi noted that rather than owning up to his failures, Adeleke was busy dancing at political receptions while workers under the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) embarked on sympathy strikes against his illegal actions.

“The governor is living in denial. He is a stranger in his own government, with proxies pulling the strings. Instead of facing governance, he keeps shifting blame to the APC and the Federal Government. The truth is clear: Osun people are suffering because Adeleke chose politics of vendetta over governance,” the party stated.

The APC further urged Adeleke to stop using propaganda to deceive Osun residents, stressing that the real enemies of progress are those who suppress constitutional order.

“Until Adeleke respects the rule of law and reinstates the authentic local government executives, Osun will continue to groan under his misrule. The APC will not fold its arms while the governor drags our dear state backward,” the statement concluded.
