APC NEC Appoints Yilwatda Nentawe as Substantive National Chairman

Abuja — July 24, 2025

The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially appointed Dr. Yilwatda Nentawe, the current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, as the substantive National Chairman of the party.

The decision was reached during the NEC meeting held at the Aso villa in Abuja on Thursday, which was attended by key stakeholders, party leaders, and members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

Dr. Nentawe succeeds the interim leadership that had been steering the party’s affairs in recent months. His appointment signals a strategic move by the ruling party as it consolidates its structure and prepares for upcoming electoral contests, particularly the 2026 gubernatorial elections across several states.

Widely regarded as a technocrat with deep administrative experience, Dr. Nentawe previously served as the APC gubernatorial candidate in Plateau State and brings to the role a blend of political insight and governance acumen. His recent tenure as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs has also earned him praise for advancing social welfare programs and interventions across the country.

Speaking shortly after his confirmation, Dr. Nentawe expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the NEC, and the broader APC family for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to uphold internal party democracy, foster unity, and ensure the APC remains a formidable political force in the country.

Party leaders across the six geopolitical zones have already begun issuing statements of support, describing Nentawe’s emergence as a “new dawn” for the APC.

The party is expected to unveil a comprehensive strategic roadmap under his leadership in the coming weeks.
