Osun PDP Endorses Tinubu for 2027, Amid Gov Adeleke Defection Rumours.

July 22, 2025 – Osogbo
Political tension is rising in Osun State after the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) publicly endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027. The endorsement was announced in a communiqué released after a PDP Leadership Caucus meeting held at the Government House in Osogbo.
At the same meeting, PDP leaders also declared their full support for Governor Ademola Adeleke to seek re-election in 2026 under the PDP. They said the decision was based on feedback from traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, retirees, market leaders, and other residents across the state.
However, the PDP’s endorsement of Tinubu has stirred mixed reactions, especially within the All Progressives Congress (APC). Some APC members say the move isn’t sincere. They believe it’s a political strategy by Governor Adeleke to win favour with the federal government and reduce support for the APC’s own governorship candidate in the 2026 election.
An APC source who spoke with CivicPulse claimed that Governor Adeleke had secretly tried to defect to the APC in recent months but was rejected. “He made several behind-the-scenes moves, but the Osun APC leadership stood firm and turned him down,” the source said.
This development comes after three PDP lawmakers from Osun State recently left the party and joined the APC—signs that all may not be well within the state’s ruling party. Many observers see these defections as evidence that some PDP members are not satisfied with Adeleke’s style of governance.
Political analysts say the PDP’s support for President Tinubu might be a smart attempt to stay politically relevant, both within the state and at the federal level. Commentator Mustapha Salam noted, “The Osun PDP wants to hold onto its base with Adeleke, while also aligning with Tinubu to avoid being sidelined nationally.”
The situation has raised serious questions:
– Is the Osun PDP truly supporting Tinubu’s leadership, or is this just a survival tactic by Governor Adeleke?
– Could this strategy hurt APC’s chances in the 2026 governorship election?
As the 2026 election draws nearer, both parties are strategizing, and citizens across the state are paying close attention. Ultimately, it will be the voters who decide the future of Osun State.
