The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has deepened as another federal lawmaker from Osun State, Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi, representing Osun Central Senatorial District, formally resigned his membership of the party.

Fadeyi’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 12, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Ward 3 Chairman in Oke-Ejigbo, Ila Orangun, Osun State. A copy of the letter, obtained in Osogbo on Saturday, was confirmed by the senator in a message to CivicPulseNg.

According to the letter, Fadeyi cited “irreconcilable differences and irreparable divisions” within the PDP, alongside prolonged court cases and internal disputes that have plagued the party in the past three years, especially at the national level.

The letter reads in part:

I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect.

Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division that have emerged, alongside court cases and counter court cases in the last three years, have created a factional crisis in the party at the national level.

This decision was taken after wide consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends.”

Senator Fadeyi’s exit comes barely weeks after another prominent lawmaker from the state, Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, also dumped the PDP.

Fadahunsi, a two-term senator, submitted his resignation letter dated June 12, 2025, to the PDP Ward 4 Chairman in Obokun Local Government Area. The letter surfaced on social media on Saturday and was later confirmed by the senator via a brief text message which simply read, “YES,” when contacted for verification.

Fadahunsi’s resignation also hinged on the same issues of internal crises, prolonged litigations, and irreconcilable differences within the PDP after the 2023 general elections.

This was concluded after consultation and engagement with my political associates, family and friends. It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith,” the letter concluded.

The twin resignations of Senators Fadeyi and Fadahunsi, both influential figures in Osun politics, further underscore the intensifying internal wrangling threatening the PDP’s stability ahead of the 2026 elections.

CivicPulseNg will continue to monitor the developments as the political realignment in Osun State and across Nigeria gains momentum.
