Adeleke is Destroying Osun Education – Integrity Group Blasts Governor’s Negligence
The Osun State Chapter of the Integrity Group of Nigeria has lashed out at Governor Ademola Adeleke over what it described as a deliberate neglect of the education sector, accusing him of endangering the future of school children in the state.
In a statement signed by the State Chairman of the group, Comrade Salam Mustapha, and made available to journalists by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Hon. Ismail Alade Iwa, the Integrity Group faulted the governor’s failure to recruit teachers nearly three years into his administration.
The group lamented that Adeleke sacked the 1,500 teachers employed by the administration of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola, without making any effort to replace them. According to the group, this has worsened the shortage of manpower in public schools across Osun.
“The Adeleke-led government is insensitive to the plight of teachers and the future of Osun children. It is shameful that after almost three years in office, not a single teacher has been recruited. Instead, teachers are being transferred arbitrarily to far-flung villages and towns as if their welfare and family situations do not matter,” the statement read in part.
The Integrity Group also criticized the government’s alleged “give and take” tactics, accusing Adeleke of pretending to increase workers’ salaries only to force them to spend the increment on transportation due to harsh transfer postings. “This is nothing short of exploitation. You cannot give with one hand and take with the other,” the group added.
The group warned that unless urgent steps are taken to recruit qualified teachers and reverse policies that overburden existing ones, Osun risks producing a generation of half-baked students, with dire consequences for the state’s development.
It, therefore, called on Governor Adeleke to stop playing politics with the education sector and to immediately restore dignity to public schools through adequate staffing and fair treatment of teachers.
