Osun APC SWC Sanitises Party Ahead Of Governorship Primary Elections, Spells Out Code Of Conduct
The Working Committee of the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has resolved to sanitise the party towards the next year’s governorship election slated for next year.
Rising from a crucial meeting at the state party’s secretariat in Osogbo, the state capital today, the state executive of the APC led by its chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, has taken some decisions aimed at promoting peace, unity and tranquility in the party towards the governorship primary election coming up in the state at a later date.
The State Working Committee observed, to its dismay, that some supporters and followers of the numerous APC governorship aspirants have been throwing caution to the wind by needlessly verbally attacking either some of the esteemed party leaders, aspirants or supporters of other aspirants within the same party.
It was the considered view of the state working committee of the party that the untoward development has been causing avoidable cataclysm, rancour and disharmony within the opposition APC in the state which is not in the overall interest of the party.
The committee stated that it was unthinkable, needless and disheartening for the members of the same party to engage one another as political rivals who should be destroyed at any slightest opportunity.
To this extent, the State Working Committee of the APC has resolved to instil discipline among the erring members by instantly outlawing any member of the executive officers of the party at all its levels be it state, senatorial, local government, ward and the reinstated local government council chairmen and councillors from involving themselves as the co-ordinator of any governorship aspirant.
It was also resolved that it has become compelling for the spokesmen of the governorship aspirants, their leaders, members and supporters, to desist from using derogatory and abusive language during the course of canvassing for their aspirants, failure of which would attract an instant sanction in line with the constitution of the party.
The State Working Committee of the APC also disclosed that the leadership of the party shall frown at any aspirant, supporter, or leader who causes a derogatory message, article or news story against any of the fellow aspirants either in print, broadcast or social media to be published in the course of canvassing support for any aspirant without considering any negative consequences to the electoral fortune of the party in the forthcoming elections.
It was also part of the resolutions of the Osun State Working Committee that no aspirant or supporter of any aspirant shall be allowed to use the name of any of the revered leaders or group of the party to endorse any governorship aspirant as failure to observe this will attract a stiff penalty from a special committee set up in the state to monitor the daily canvassing activities of the aspirants.
The coordinators of the governorship aspirants were also charged to desist from reeling out mere fabrications about the financial support from the eminent chieftains of the party at the state level as this is capable of fueling a bad blood among the members and supporters of the party.
The committee warned the governorship aspirants to impress it on their supporters on the need for them to always behave themselves during the course of canvassing support for them, cautioning that the leadership of the party is capable of wielding a big stick on any recalcitrant aspirant or supporter.
The State Working Committee of the APC also dwelled on an ongoing directive of the generation of 1,000 names from each of the wards in the state which is said to be handled by a Non-Governnmental Organisation with a directive that the state party chairman should investigate the authenticity of the programme in Abuja.
The committee also resolved that there is a need for the state leadership of the party to call the meeting of the APC chairmen in all the local government council areas through whom the programme should be rooted in order to be seen as being emanating from the party.
The State Working Committee also charged the members of the state executive officers to double up their efforts in their current handling of the ongoing Continuous Voters’ Registration exercise in their respective constituencies, stating that their present approach to it has not been encouraging enough.
The committee reminded the governorship aspirants and their supporters that it is needless to turn fellow members of the same party into arch-enemies because of a primary election, adding that the aspirations of all the worthy and patriotic members of the party should be how to win the 2026 governorship election and not exchange of tantrums within the party.
