The Nigerian Police Force, Osun Command has successfully apprehended several members of an alleged notorious killer gang that has long terrorized Osogbo and its environs. Among those arrested were the gang’s leader, known as Oriyomi (alias Yahoo), his second-in-command, Mafia, and four other key members of the syndicate.
The suspects have been on the radar of the Nigeria Police Force for several years, with numerous petitions and reports linking them to a range of violent crimes, including murder, armed robbery, and cult-related activities.
In a further breakthrough, earlier yesterday, the same Anti-Cultism Unit apprehended another high-profile suspect, Waliyi Adejare (JayJay), a gang leader widely feared for his alleged involvement in multiple killings across Osun State between 2022 and 2023.
Waliyi JayJay is currently in custody at the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force in Osogbo, Osun state. Waliyi Adejare popularly called “JayJay” is believed to have close ties with an appointee of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Nuru Alowonle, the Chairman of the Osun State Park Management System. Waliyi is said to be one of Alowonle’s close boys.
Intelligence indicates that just before the 2025 Osun Osogbo Festival held recently in August, Waliyi and his gang, allegedly acting under the directive of Nuru Alowonle, launched a violent attack on one Mr Samuel Ayodele Oni, a commercial driver living with a disability. The victim escaped death by the whiskers.
It was learnt that Waliyi Adejare is a deserter from the Nigerian Military. Reports indicate that he absconded with military-grade firearms, which he has since used to orchestrate a reign of terror in Osogbo and neighboring communities.
The two gang members arrested were allegedly involved in the brutal murders of Mr Rabiu at Ilesha Garage in Osogbo (2022), Mr Muraina Olayiwola (Matanna) at Old Garage (2022), and Oyewale Sheriff (2022). They also reportedly set ablaze a vehicle belonging to one Mr Wasiu Abiodun (Adingbe) after he narrowly escaped death when they fired shots at his car at Ayetoro Junction in Osogbo in 2022.
Furthermore, they were reportedly responsible for the horrific killing of an innocent man, Mr Waidi, simply known as “My Friend,” whom they allegedly burnt alive and dismembered in 2023.
