Fresh concerns have been raised over alleged lopsided distribution of Osun State’s resources under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke, with claims that government projects have been concentrated almost exclusively in his hometown, Ede, at the expense of other parts of the state.
The revelation came to light on Sunday when a former Osun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Omooba Adebayo Adeleke Banik, featured on a socio-political program aired on Fresh FM, Osogbo. During the program, he cited official government records as evidence of what he described as “nepotism of the highest order.”
A review of the Osun State e-Government Procurement Portal (egp.osunstate.gov.ng) supports this claim, showing that a significant percentage of capital projects approved by the Adeleke administration are concentrated in Ede.
For instance, under Phase III infrastructure projects awarded through the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, the following allocations were captured:
₦9,606,856,659 for the dualization of Oke Gada to Orita Awo Junction, Ede.
₦2,541,480,297 for the dualization of Muslim Burial Ground–YTD, Ojoro Road, Ede (Phase II).
₦9,835,217,263 for the dualization of Abeere Roundabout–YTD Ojoro Road, Ede (Phase II).
Meanwhile, projects in other zones such as the Ejigbo–Iwo Road rehabilitation were allocated comparatively smaller sums, including ₦2,371,306,280 (Phase II) and ₦3,194,034,199.
Analysts and political observers have expressed worry that this concentration of resources in one locality may further widen socio-political divisions and deepen developmental inequality across Osun State.
Mr. Banik emphasized during the broadcast that the governor’s constitutional responsibility is to ensure equitable distribution of development across all local government areas, not to channel state resources into a single hometown.
