The All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded a sweeping victory in the just-concluded local government elections in Rivers State, clinching 20 out of the 23 chairmanship and councillorship seats.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which currently controls the state government, managed to secure only three local government areas in the poll organized by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC).
In a major political upset, Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s home base, Opobo-Nkoro LGA, was among the councils won by the APC.
Announcing the results on Sunday at the RSIEC headquarters along Aba Road, Port Harcourt, the Commission’s Chairman, Dr. Michael Odey, confirmed the outcome of the elections.
