The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly dismissed the suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to unseat four Osun lawmakers at the National Assembly who recently defected to the ruling party, describing the action as “a futile political gamble.”
The PDP had, through its counsel, Raphael Oyewole, approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking it to declare vacant the seats of Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East), Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi (Osun Central), Hon. Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya (Atakumosa East/West, Ilesa East/West), and Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro (Ife Central/East/North and South).
But reacting in Osogbo, the spokesperson of the APC in Osun, Mr. Kola Olabisi, maintained that the lawmakers acted within their constitutional rights, stressing that the PDP was only crying foul after its internal crisis forced many of its members to seek political refuge in a more stable and progressive platform.
“The PDP’s suit is dead on arrival. Their house is in ruins, and no politician worth his salt will sit on a sinking ship. These lawmakers only made a wise choice by joining the APC, a party with clear direction, unity, and prospects for governance. What PDP is left with, both at the state and national levels, is nothing but carcasses,” Olabisi said.
He added that the opposition’s desperation showed how threatened it has become by the steady flow of defections into the APC, noting that the ruling party remains the only viable platform for genuine progress in Osun and across Nigeria.
The development comes just weeks after the PDP also dragged Hon. Oluwole Oke of Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency to court for defecting to the APC. Political observers, however, view the PDP’s serial litigations as panic moves aimed at distracting lawmakers rather than addressing the party’s evident decline.
