Security Operatives Arrest Political Thugs in Kano By-Election
Bagwai, Kano State – Security operatives on Saturday arrested a number of suspected political thugs in Bagwai Local Government Area during the ongoing by-election for the Shanono/Bagwai State Constituency seat in the Kano State House of Assembly.
The arrests followed reports of tension in parts of the constituency as voters trooped out to exercise their franchise. Eyewitnesses said the suspects were apprehended while attempting to disrupt the voting process at some polling units.
Spokespersons of the security agencies deployed for the exercise confirmed the development, assuring residents that adequate measures have been put in place to safeguard the integrity of the polls.
Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also noted that despite isolated incidents, accreditation and voting have been largely peaceful across most polling centers in the constituency.
The Shanono/Bagwai seat became vacant following the death of its former representative, necessitating the by-election. The contest has drawn attention as political parties intensify efforts to consolidate their strength in the Kano State House of Assembly.
Security agencies have urged voters to remain calm, law-abiding, and to report any suspicious activity as counting of votes commences after the close of polls.
