OSUN APC TO SPEAKER EGBEDUN: Your Unruly Behaviour Towards Oba Olasunkanmi Condemnable, Rude, Obnoxious
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has decried the exhibition of an uncultured attitude of the serving Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Right Honourable Adewole Egbedun, towards the traditional ruler of his home town, the Alasi of Asi, Oba Olasunkanmi Oyewale Isaac, in the Odo-Otin Local Government Council Area of the state.
It would be recalled that the 40-year-old Egbedun in a viral video recording went haywire attacking, threatening, cursing and harassing the 72-year-old monarch of his town in a manner suggestive of political persecution and oppression.
The Speaker of the state House of Assembly had engaged in an altercations with the royal father through a phone call picked by his daughter where and when the number one lawmaker in Osun State slided into the abyss of a lawbreaking by starting raining abuses, curses, threats and harassment on the monarch if he should venture to come to his kingdom on the day in question.
In the viral video recording, Speaker Egbedun not only threatened to instruct his thugs to beat up the monarch, he also threatened to depose him, arrest him and possibly kill him by metaphorically telling the traditional father that he would ensure he engaged in a blood bath.
The uncultured Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly went further to state that he never knew that the traditional ruler who is old enough to beget him who has been destined to face persecution would have its taste from him because he was disrespectful.
All the entreaties made by the daughter of the monarch to allow peace to reign fell in the deaf ear of the unruly Speaker who was busy with his session of threatening of the monarch with a final hint that he would teach the traditional ruler the lesson of his life.
We, as a party, are not surprised at the exhibition of the uncultured and ill-manner of Speaker Egbedun to the traditional ruler of his town as it is pretty impossible for someone to give what he does not possess.
If the type of Egbedun has been the one calling the shot in the Osun State House of Assembly, do we need to wonder the type of services that the supposed hallowed chambers would be rendering to the unsuspecting people of the state?
With the verifiable uncultured attitude of the Speaker to the Alasi, the pungent reason for the ceaseless acts of misgovernace bedevilling the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led government can be partly traced to the state house of assembly under the watch of Egbedun.
If the Speaker could treat his traditional ruler in such an obnoxious manner, one could imagine what the members of the Assembly where he has the constitutional power to do and undo are passing through which could not be divulged to the public.
With this show of shame of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, he has shown that he is a monumental minus to the administration of the visibly wobbling administration of Governor Adeleke and an unworthy ambassador of the Conference of Speakers in Nigeria.
How did we get to this low level of governance in Osun State? The State of the Virtuous has never had it so bad with a low quality legislature and poor governance which are negatively rubbing on the unsuspecting innocent people of the state.
We are passionately appealing to the Inspector-General of Police to investigate, arrest and prosecute the Speaker on the attack and threat to the life of Oba Olasunkanmi as a life does not have a duplicate once it is taken.
Based on the foregoing, we are appealing to the constituents of the unruly Speaker to begin his recall without further delay as he has proven to be their unworthy representative in the state House of Assembly.
We also want to impress it on the members of the House of Assembly to start, as a matter of urgency, the impeachment process of the Speaker that has dented the corporate image of the Assembly with his unruly behaviour against the sacred obaship institution of his town.
It is also expedient for the council of traditional rulers in the state to show their grouse on these infractions against one of them by the Speaker in the spirit of an injury to one is an injury to everyone of them.
