In a major blow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District and chairs the Senate Committee on Industry, has announced his resignation from the party, citing “irreparable and irreconcilable differences” within its national leadership.

In a letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to the Ward Chairman of PDP in Ward 4, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Senator Fadahunsi declared his immediate departure from the party, attributing his decision to the unending internal crises and legal tussles that have plagued the PDP since the 2023 general elections.

I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedeviled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections,” the letter reads in part.

The senator disclosed that his decision followed wide consultations with his political associates, family, and close allies, emphasizing that it was not taken lightly.

The resignation of Senator Fadahunsi, a high-ranking lawmaker and influential voice within the PDP in Osun State, is a clear signal of the deepening cracks within the party’s national structure. His exit may further destabilize the PDP’s grip in Osun East and weaken its prospects ahead of the 2026 elections.

As of press time, Senator Fadahunsi has not publicly declared alignment with any political party, though speculations abound regarding possible realignments ahead of 2026.

The PDP is yet to officially respond to the senator’s resignation.
