Unresolved PDP Conflicts Prompt Emergency Visit to INEC Headquarters

A high-level delegation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by the party’s Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, on Monday visited the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja.

The delegation was received by INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who was joined by National Commissioners, senior technical aides, and key departmental directors. The visit, described as crucial and timely, focused on issues requiring INEC’s regulatory attention and clarification, especially on internal developments within the PDP.

In his welcome address, Professor Yakubu assured the delegation of the Commission’s impartiality and readiness to uphold the integrity of the electoral process. “INEC remains committed to its constitutional duty of ensuring that the rules are followed without bias,” he stated.

The engagement, which began with brief public remarks, transitioned into a closed-door session where both parties were expected to deliberate on sensitive matters, resolve grey areas, and align on lawful procedures going forward.

Party insiders hinted that the dialogue was aimed at strengthening institutional synergy and safeguarding democratic processes within the party ahead of the 2026 and 2027 elections.
